The Cardinals signed former Cowboys cornerback Bene Benwikere Friday.

The Cardinals are still looking for a cornerback to start across from perennial Pro Bowler Patrick Peterson, and with their 2017 choice not returning to the team in 2018, they signed one possibility Friday and have another familiar face reportedly coming to visit.

Free agent cornerback Bené Benwikere signed a one-year contract Friday, after last year's starter, Tramon Williams, headed back to Green Bay as a free agent. The Cardinals are also expected to talk to Marcus Cooper, who played for the Cardinals in 2016 before signing with Chicago as a free agent last year. Cooper was cut by the Bears last week, the same day Chicago released new Cards' backup quarterback Mike Glennon.

Benwikere was a fifth-round pick of the Carolina Panthers in 2014 and played two-plus seasons under new Cardinals coach Steve Wilks when Wilks was coaching Carolina's defensive backs. He spent time with the Packers, Dolphins and Bengals before being traded to the Cowboys last season.

He has played in 39 games with 14 career starts, notching two interceptions and a sack.

Williams, 35, played well after he replaced Justin Bethel in the starting lineup, and was a candidate to return. He also made clear he left the Packers in 2015 after nine seasons when he didn’t really want to because of a large contract offer from Cleveland. Now he returns to Green Bay.

Aside from Peterson and Benwikere at cornerback, the Cardinals have 2016 third-round pick Brandon Williams, Jarell Carter, C.J. Goodwin, Jonathan Moxey and Lou Young.
