CANTON, Ohio – The Cardinals still have uncertainty at the No. 2 cornerback spot across from Patrick Peterson, and after the signing of Tramon Williams, it seems like Brandon Williams' chances may have shrunk.
"I don't care about that," Williams said. "I'm just doing me."
With starter Justin Bethel and Tramon Williams both sitting out Thursday night's 20-18 Hall of Fame game loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Brandon Williams had a chance to start (along with Harlan Miller) and was tested often by Dallas.
"For the most part, I feel like I did OK," Williams said.
On an early Cowboys field-goal drive, Williams made an impressive play to break up a deep pass, but on the next play, got beat deep for a 32-yard gain. He was also called for a pass interference on the drive (earlier he had been flagged for an illegal hands to the face which was declined.)
But on the next drive, Williams played his man perfectly in the end zone and came down with an interception.
"We'll grade the tape," coach Bruce Arians said. "But the one thing about him, he competes."
"You've got to compete, especially at corner," Williams said. "Or you can't play the position."
"FINGERS CROSSED" FOR LOGAN INJURY
Rookie running back T.J. Logan looked very good in his debut, leading the team with 24 yards rushing,
breaking off a 43-yard kickoff return and looking comfortable and effective as a punt returner – something he had never done in college.
"T.J. was outstanding," Arians said.
But his last run of the night could be costly. After breaking off a 16-yard gain Logan had a huge collision with Cowboys safety Jameill Showers, and Logan hurt his wrist on the play.
Linebacker Jarvis Jones had a thigh issue bit Arians said it wasn't serious.
"T.J. is the only one where we've got our fingers crossed," Arians said.
NKEMDICHE'S QUALITY START
Arians called defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche "explosive" in his first half of work, a "real good start" for the 2016 No. 1 draft pick.
"I just felt like myself," Nkemdiche said.
"It was fun to get out with your teammates and play within the defense and keep finding ways to get better," Nkemdiche added. "I feel a little more experienced and I feel healthy."
