The Cardinals re-signed their first impending free agent on Wednesday, inking long snapper Aaron Brewer to a four-year deal.

Brewer originally signed with the team four weeks into the 2016 season, replacing the ineffective Kam Canaday. He missed eight games last year after breaking his wrist in punt coverage against the Eagles, but returned to the field late in the season and snapped well. Brewer said he's excited to be returning to the team.

"I met my fiancée here," Brewer said. "I'm from San Diego and it's really close. They gave me an opportunity this last time. I'm happy to be here."

Brewer has a relationship with new special teams coach Jeff Rodgers, who he was with both in Denver and Chicago.

"I've known Rodgers for a long time, and I know that helped," Brewer said. "He let me know when he got hired here, so I kind of had a good feeling (a reunion was coming). I know what he's looking for with his schemes. He's a good dude."

Kicker Phil Dawson hit all 10 of his field goal attempts after Brewer returned to the lineup in Week 15 against Washington.

"It was great having 'Brew' back," Dawson said after going 5-for-5 on field goals against the Redskins. "You've got to hand him a lot of credit. It's tough to miss eight, nine games, whatever it was and have a couple of days of practice and then come out in the elements and handle it. That's a true pro."

Dawson, punter Andy Lee and Brewer are all under contract for 2018. Brewer, a six-year veteran, will be 28 next season.

The signing leaves the Cardinals with 18 unrestricted free agents and three restricted free agents. The free agent period begins on March 14. A negotiating window starts two days prior.
