One of three new styles of cleats Cardinals safety Tyrann Mathieu showed off on social media Saturday.
The NFL has lightened up on their dress code this season, in part because of the success of the "My Cause, My Cleats" program, and that has extended to footwear -- at least before the game.
"They really wanted the opportunity to express themselves, to show their enthusiasm and passion for the game," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said earlier this week during a question-and-answer session with Cardinals fans. "To frankly, show who they are as people."
It doesn't mean in-game cleats will look a lot different -- players must stick with black, white or a primary color of the player's team -- but during pre-game and warmups, players can show off cool designs they might have at their disposal.
Safety Tyrann Mathieu unveiled three new versions of shoes he wants to wear this season on social media. One pair is the black version above (which he portrayed only on Instagram), while the other two he also showed on Twitter:
Mathieu is expected to break out a pair prior to Saturday night's preseason game against the Bears at University of Phoenix Stadium.
