The Cardinals promoted practice squad cornerback Harlan Miller to the active roster Monday.

The Cardinals made a move in their secondary Monday, releasing cornerback Tharold Simon and promoting cornerback Harlan Miller from the practice squad.

Miller was the team's sixth-round draft pick in April, but he has spent the season on the practice squad. Whether he is active in a game is to be determined – coach Bruce Arians said the team will watch the back injury of starter Marcus Cooper, who has left in the middle of both of the last two games because of the issue.

Simon was claimed off waivers in early September when he was released by the Seahawks. The Cardinals, coincidentally, travel to Seattle for game Saturday.

Simon played in nine games for the Cardinals, but was declared inactive for each of the past two games. He totaled six tackles in brief defensive playing time, and also worked on special teams. 

Saints quarterback Drew Brees passed for 389 yards and four touchdowns Sunday. 

The secondary played "very, very below par for us," coach Bruce Arians said Monday. 

Arians said the Cards struggled with executing their leverage and being in the right place either working inside-out or outside-in, and failing to look at Brees in man-to-man. 

"All technical things that we know better," Arians said.
