It's been a rough year for hair around the Arizona Cardinals.
Early in the offseason multiple players – like Darnell Dockett and Rashad Johnson -- shaved off their long-standing dreadlocks. That was at least planned. Then came training camp, when rookies like Tyrann Mathieu lost some hair (and in Mathieu’s case, an eyebrow) as they were embedded with an NFL team for the first time.
But none of it was like Sunday, when rookie running back Andre Ellington had a fistful of dreadlocks ripped off his head by Jaguars defensive end Jason Babin. Ellington shrugged it off, but the crack broadcast crew of the Cardinals had foreseen such an event (OK, maybe it was a fortunate break) and had wired Ellington up for the game.
So, in the video above, you can watch Ellington in his own words both during the game and in a day-after interview speak about the hair-pull-heard-round-the-world. And always remember: Hair that comes down outside of the helmet is part of the uniform. NFL rules.
"What can I tell ya, baby," a smiling coach Bruce Arians told Ellington. "We'll get you some more."
