Here's the update on Beanie Wells, straight from coach Ken Whisenhunt. : "His MRI revealed a right ankle sprain but at this point it doesn't appear serious, which is obviously good news. In terms of missing time, it's tough to say now but we should have a better idea in the coming days."
(As you can note, it turned out to be a right ankle sprain. It was his left that was reported yesterday, but in the end, it probably doesn't matter much which leg it was).
The play didn't seem all that huge at the time. There was a pile up when the offensive line collapsed at the hole, as defensive linemen Jason Banks and, to a lesser extent, Alan Branch, got to Wells. He got up right away. Not that the details matter now.
Whisenhunt and the Cardinals have to hope this isn't too much of a setback for Wells. Safety Antrel Rolle suffered that ankle sprain in the preseason opener last season and it really affected his training camp and seemed to slow his progress as he tried to learn a new position. Wells needs his reps in practice. Hopefully Beanie's ding won't be on Rolle's scale.
