The Cardinals signed an inside linebacker, although it may have not been the one expected.

Veteran Paris Lenon agreed to a three-year contract, the announcement of which comes on the same day fellow free-agent visitor Larry Foote signed a contract in Pittsburgh.

Lenon played in 15 games for the Rams in 2009, starting 10. He finished with 42 tackles, although he had 121 and 118 the previous two seasons as a starter in Detroit. He could play the role of starter, although he could eventually move into a reserve role and he is considered a strong special teams player.

Foote returned to Pittsburgh on a three-year contract Monday morning, a deal reportedly worth $9.3 million. He had also visited both the Cardinals and the Redskins.

General manager Rod Graves said Lenon actually fits the hole left by Karlos Dansby's departure better than Foote, although the Cards had been interested in signing both players.

The Cards are also waiting for the decision of quarterback Charlie Whitehurst, who reportedly received contract offers from both the Cards and Seahawks. The restricted free agent would have to sign an offer sheet first and then the Chargers – his current team  -- would have a week to decide to match or instead collect compensation from the signing team.

Whitehurst's tender was as a third-round pick, although the Seahawks – who don't have a third-round pick to surrender – have worked out another deal.

The Cardinals still hope to negotiate further with free-agent linebacker Joey Porter.
