With Patrick Peterson's return from suspension still a week away and Tramaine Brock dealing with a shoulder injury, the Cardinals added some depth at cornerback Tuesday when they were awarded their waiver claim on Trevor Williams.
Williams had been released by the Los Angeles Chargers Monday from their injured reserve list.
Williams has three interceptions in his career, but hampered by injuries. He played only nine games in 2018 because of a knee injury, and had not played this season yet because of a quadriceps injury suffered this summer. That the Cardinals were willing to claim him may mean he is close to returning to the field.
To make room on the roster, the Cards cut punter Ryan Winslow, which also should mean Andy Lee is ready to return. Lee did dress Sunday in Cincinnati, but only held on field goals and extra points as he rehabs from a hip injury.
The Cardinals also re-signed running back Justin Davis to the practice squad, giving the team an extra body at the position with starter David Johnson dealing with a back problem and only two other running backs -- Chase Edmonds and D.J. Foster -- on the 53-man roster.
