Cardinals Begin Roster Cuts By Releasing 6

Deadline to get to 53 comes Tuesday at 1 p.m.

The Cardinals need to get their roster down to 53 by Tuesday, but started the process Monday.

The team released six players the day after the preseason finale, paring the roster down to 85. One of those players remaining is tight end Bernhard Seikovits, who will receive an international player exemption to be the 17th player on the practice squad if he clears waivers (and he does not make the 53-man roster).

The full list of those released:

  • WR Daylen Baldwin
  • OLB Chris Garrett
  • CB Delonte Hood
  • S Verone McKinley III
  • CB Michael Ojemudia
  • OL Austen Pleasants

Wide receiver Zay Jones, who will be suspended the first five games of the season, will not take up a roster spot. The Cardinals will have the option to place players on IR which would also save spots.

Any players cut with less than four accrued seasons -- including all six players Monday -- must go through waivers and can be claimed (although they must end up on a team's initial 53-man roster.) If they clear waivers, the Cardinals can bring that player back to their own practice squad if they choose.
