EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The final step of Patrick Peterson's return from suspension came Saturday, when the Cardinals officially put the cornerback back on the 53-man roster.

The team had used its week-long roster exemption for Peterson for him to come back to practice this week without making a move. To create a spot on the roster, the Cardinals put offensive lineman Brett Toth on the Non-Football Injury list with an illness.

Toth, who went to Army, had been picked up on waivers after the preseason. He has been inactive every game, and because of his agreement with the government to play in the NFL, he has spent every Tuesday working at a local recruitment office to help fulfill his military commitment.

It was the only roster move the Cardinals made Saturday -- a good sign toward the readiness of running back David Johnson (ankle), who coach Kliff Kingsbury said Friday was a game-time decision on whether he would play. Running back D.J. Foster (hamstring) has already been ruled out of the game against the Giants. Besides Johnson, Chase Edmonds is the only other running back on the roster.
