The Cardinals officially have their new kicker on the roster.
Sure, Mike Nugent has been elevated from the practice squad the last two weeks in place of the injured Zane Gonzalez, but with no "free" elevations left, the veteran was finally signed to the 53-man roster Saturday. The Cardinals, with tight end Maxx Williams hurting, also signed tight end Seth DeValve to the 53-man roster from the practice squad.
Needing to open one spot on the roster, the Cardinals officially put linebacker Dennis Gardeck (knee) on Injured Reserve.
The Cardinals also elevated linebacker Terrance Smith from the practice squad for the game.
Nugent has been perfect in his two games for the Cardinals, making all five of his field-goal attempts and all six of his extra-point tries. With Nugent up and Gonzalez out, the Cards also created their own backup/COVID plan by signing veteran kicker Brett Maher to the practice squad. Maher made 49-of-66 field goals in two seasons as the Cowboys' kicker in 2018-19.
The Cardinals host the 49ers Saturday at State Farm Stadium.
