1st Quarter
Cardinals win toss, defer to second half.
Neil Rackers' kickoff squibbed down the middle, returned by Mike Sellers 17 yards to the23. On first down, Jason Campbell passes to Chris Cooley right side for four yards, then Clinton Portis runs left for three yards. On third-and-two at the 47, Redskins whistled for false start, now third-and-eight at the 42. Sellers throws complete to Portis for 10 yards and a first down at the Arizona 48. Cooley takes screen right for six yards, then Sellers passes left to Santana Moss, who breaks a tackle and turns upfield for a gain of 10 to the Card 32-yard line. Campbell back to pass, finds no one open, runs up middle for 16 yards and a first down at the 16, under 11 minutes left in the first quarter. Portis runs left for three yards, and Campbell finds Antwaan Randle El short middle for five yards. Now third-and-one at the seven, Portis runs middle for two yards and a first down. Suisham's kickoff short, fallen on by Steve Breaston at the 26. Cardinals first possession of the game begins at their own 26, 8:28 left in the first quarter. Edgerrin James takes the handoff running left for six yards, and on second down James up the middle for six yards and a first down at the 37. James again, this time finds five yards on the right side. Second-and-five at the 42, Kurt Warner passes complete to Larry Fitzgerald near the left sideline for eight yards and a first down. Washington's second possession of the game begins at its 20, 3:37 remaining in the opening quarter. Portis runs right, stopped for no gain. Ladell Betts takes draw left for three yards, and on third-and-six at the 23, Campbell passes over the middle to Randle El for 15 yards and a first down at the 38. First-and-10, both teams called for pass interference, replay the down. First and 10 at the 38, Campbell to Moss for seven, Redskin player injured, 3:02 left in the quarter. On second down, Betts runs left, measurement confirms first down at the 48. Campbell play-fake, sacked by Karlos Dansby and Gerald Hayes for loss of 11. Campbell connects with Moss short over the middle for 12 yards, then Portis runs for two yards. Third-and-six now, Campbell's pass broken up by Card Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Breaston takes kickoff six yards in end zone, returns to 18. James runs for seven yards left side, then Warner complete to Fitzgerald over the middle for five yards and a first down at the 30. Warner's pass right to Fitzgerald nearly picked off by Rogers. On second-and-10, Warner sacked by Kedric Golston for loss of seven. Fourth quarter begins with Washington third-and-seven at its 41. Campbell complete to Sellers right, short of first down yardage for gain of four. On fourth-and-three, Brooks' 36-yard punt fair caught by Breaston at the 19.
Cards take over first-and-10 at their 19-yard line, 14:21 left in the game. James on the delay loses three yards, then Warner complete right to Antrel Rolle for eight yards. Washington called for offsides, now second-and-eight at the 21. Warner passes deep middle to Breaston, ball batted in the air, intercepted by Rogers, returns 42 yards to the Cardinal 15.
Washington first and 10 at the 15, Portis stopped by Hayes for loss of two. On second-and-12, Moss takes pass in right flat, runs 17 yards to the end zone. Suisham adds the extra point and Washington takes 24-17 lead with 12:10 left. Drive was two plays, 15 yards, 48 seconds time of possession.
Breaston takes the kickoff at the five-yard line, returns to the 39. James takes the handoff, bounces outside left for 16 yards to the Redskin 45. First-and-10 at the 45, Hightower up the middle for five yards, then Warner sacked for loss of six. Now third-and-11 at the 40, Warner incomplete deep to Breaston.
