Carson Palmer Earns NFC Honor

Quarterback is offensive player of the week after stellar showing against Colts

Quarterback Carson Palmer won the NFC offensive player of the week award for his effort against the Colts last weekend.

Earlier in the season, some were calling for Carson Palmer to be replaced as the veteran quarterback struggled with interceptions.

But Palmer's demeanor never changed and neither did his belief in the offense – and himself – eventually finding a groove. That has happened over the last month, and tangible evidence can now be seen not only in a four-game winning streak but in the NFC offensive player of the week award Palmer was awarded Wednesday.

"I've been around for a while and I know how things go," Palmer said. "When things weren't going wel, I knew they would. I knew we

would start trusting each other and get on the same page and get that time and rhythm of the passing game and the running game."

Palmer had won an offensive player of the week award twice before in his career, both when playing in Cincinnati. His most recent came in 2009. He is the sixth Cardinals quarterback to win the award, following Neil Lomax, Kent Graham, Boomer Esiason, Jake Plummer and Kurt Warner.

Palmer completed 26 of 37 throws against the Colts for 314 yards, two touchdowns, no turnovers and a passer rating of 114.0. After a similar showing in Jacksonville (30-for-42, 419, 2,0, 119.0) Palmer became the first player in franchise history to have at least 300 passing yards, at least 70 percent completions and at least a 110 passer rating in back-to-back games. He and Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning are the only players to do so this season.

Palmer is the third Cardinal to win an NFL award this season. Cornerback Patrick Peterson won the NFC's defensive player of the week award after the Cardinals' win in Tampa Bay Week 4, while safety Tyrann Mathieu was named the NFL's defensive rookie of the month for October.
