The Cardinals began building their 16-man practice squad with the players they had just released, including veteran safety Chris Banjo and wide receivers Andre Baccellia and Greg Dortch among nine signees.
Seventh-round pick James Wiggins returns as well. Only center Michal Menet is gone from the 2021 draft class.
Wide receiver KeeSean Johnson, who went unclaimed on waivers, is not returning at this point. The Cardinals did not have any player they released be claimed on waivers.
The full practice squad thus far:
- WR Andre Baccellia
- S Chris Banjo
- WR Greg Dortch
- LB Kylie Fitts
- OL Sean Harlow
- OL Koda Martin
- TE Ross Travis
- CB Jace Whittaker
- S James Wiggins
Tight end Bernhard Seikovits is also returning under an international player exemption.
With the 53-man roster, coach Kliff Kingsbury said he was hopeful injured tight end Darrell Daniels would return next week, and that guard Justin Pugh and cornerback Robert Alford could come off the Reserve/COVID-19 list by Friday. The Cardinals have one open roster spot, so a player must be released before both Pugh and Alford can be activated.
Kingsbury also said there has been no final decision on the starter at right guard. There has also not been a decision on whether linebacker Dennis Gardeck, who is coming off ACL surgery, will be available for the first game of the season.
