The Cardinals added a running back to the roster Saturday by promoting D.J. Foster from the practice squad.
The Cards did have a roster spot after placing wide receiver KeeSean Johnson on the Reserve/COVID list Friday, but teams are also allowed to elevate up to two practice squad players a week to the active roster if they choose.
This is Foster's fourth season with the Cardinals. Last season, he played in six games without a rushing attempt, with a role on special teams. He had a career-best four special-teams tackles against the Falcons. A hamstring injury kept him out of a couple of games before he landed on injured reserve. In 2018, Foster missed the entire season after hurting his knee in the preseason.
The top three running backs on the depth chart are Kenyan Drake, Chase Edmonds and Eno Benjamin.
The Cards traveled to the Bay Area Saturday for Sunday's season opener against the 49ers.
