Darius Robinson Will Reportedly Return Following Calf Injury

Cardinals rookie was injured during practice

The Cardinals just landed in Denver for their preseason finale against the Broncos on Sunday, but it was a player who won't have a chance to play that made the news.

Ian Rapoport xeeted on Saturday that Robinson's calf injury showed a strain after he had tests, which Rapoport said would be a "multi-week" issue. It has to be seen as good news, since there are versions of calf injuries that could end a season. How long Robinson could miss is unknown -- coach Jonathan Gannon doesn't meet the media again until Sunday after the game, and then again Monday morning.

The Cardinals do potentially benefit from a rule change that allows up to two players to be put on Injured Reserve prior to finalizing the 53-man roster and still return during the season; previously, if you wanted to bring back a player from IR and he was hurt in preseason, a team had to use one of their 53-man spots initially and only after the first round of cuts could move him over.

If Robinson remains on the 53-man roster Tuesday without a trip to IR, that would be an indication he would have a good chance to come back within the first month of the season. If he is placed on IR, the earliest he could return would be after the fourth game of the year.

The Cardinals open the regular season in Buffalo, followed by three straight home games against the Rams, Lions and Commanders.
