Cardinals running back David Johnson made the Associated Press' All-Pro team in his second season.
The Associated Press added the "flex" position to its All-Pro team this year, and found the perfect player to fill it.
Cardinals running back David Johnson earned the honor after a season in which he ran for 1,239 yards, amassed 879 receiving yards and totaled 20 touchdowns. Johnson also made the second team at running back, while Calais Campbell was a second-team selection at defensive tackle.
Johnson set several franchise records in 2016, and became the first player in NFL history to surpass 100 yards from scrimmage in each of his team's first 15 games.
The flex position was added to more accurately reflect the way teams deploy players, allowing voters to consider wide receivers and tight ends in addition to running backs. Johnson was still the choice, as he became only the fourth running back to eclipse 1,200 rushing yards and 800 receiving yards in the same season, joining Marshall Faulk, Steven Jackson and Le'Veon Bell.
Johnson finished with 24 votes at the flex position, six more than Bell. Cowboys rookie Ezekiel Elliott was the first team running back, garnering 47 votes, while Johnson grabbed the other three. Atlanta's Matt Ryan was the first-team quarterback, beating out Tom Brady.
Elliott was one of three rookies on the list, joined by Kansas City punt returner Tyreek Hill and Tennessee right tackle Jack Conklin. The Cowboys led the NFL with five All-Pros.
Campbell finished behind the Rams' Aaron Donald, the Giants' Damon Harrison and the Dolphins' Ndamukong Suh in defensive tackle voting to garner second-team honors with seven votes. He had 63 tackles, eight sacks, 18 tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, an interception and a return touchdown on the season.
Justin Bethel picked up three votes for his special teams work. Cornerback Patrick Peterson received two votes at defensive back. Wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald got a vote at the flex spot.
Peterson and safety Tyrann Mathieu made the All-Pro team last season.
