D.J. Humphries extolled the virtues of quarterback Kyler Murray during a virtual press conference with the Arizona media on Monday.
Not only is the young quarterback a great player, Humphries said, but Murray was even planning to name his dog after the left tackle.
"He told me that he was going to choose between Hump Jr., Lil' DJ and Sen-Fo," Humphries said. "Sen-Fo is like the short, abbreviated Southern way to say 74 (Humphries' jersey number). That was my No. 1 suggestion."
No matter which option Murray chose, Humphries was honored to receive the news.
"He really cares about me," Humphries said.
The story didn't quite hold up under scrutiny, however. Murray talked to the media a couple of days later and disputed that he promised to name his dog after Humphries.
"No, no… no," Murray said. "My dog's name is Swoosh. He gave me some recommendations, but I didn't take those at all. I don't know why he came here on told y'all I was naming my dog after him."
Murray is reportedly flying out 20 members of the offense to Dallas this week to work on the passing game. While Humphries isn't one of them, maybe he should be.
The pair could iron out the miscommunication, or Humphries could simply help dog-sit his near-namesake.
"The dog -- I feel like I have a son of my own," Murray said. "He's keeping me up. Late nights, early mornings. He's a lot to deal with."
