Five Assistants Sign New Deals

Coaching staff remains in place save for QB coach opening

Offensive line coach Russ Grimm was one of five coaches who have re-signed new contracts.

The Cardinals' coaching staff will remain mostly intact for 2012, after a handful of assistants formally re-signed new contracts to stay with the team.

Assistant head coach/offensive line coach Russ Grimm, special teams coach Kevin Spencer, tight ends coach Freddie Kitchens, running backs coach Tommie Robinson and defensive line coach Ron Aiken all inked new deals.

Specific terms were not released, although XTRA 910's Mike Jurecki reported Grimm and Kitchens got two-year contracts.

"Our coaches have done a good job of staying true and working hard," coach Ken Whisenhunt said the day after the season.

There will be one change on the staff. There remains an opening for quarterback coach after Chris Miller was let go earlier this month. The Cardinals have talked to former offensive coordinator Todd Haley about a possible return, but Whisenhunt has been encouraged by the work and growth of current offensive coordinator Mike Miller and it's possible the quarterback coaching role is the only opening available. Whisenhunt has not commented on any potential coaching moves.

Beyond Haley, no other names have surfaced as possible candidates on the staff.

The assistant coaches, off last week, will travel to Mobile, Ala., next week to help scout players at the annual Senior Bowl.

All the coaches that re-signed but Robinson were part of Whisenhunt's original staff when he was hired by the Cardinals in 2007. Robinson arrived in 2010, replacing Curtis Modkins.

The rest of the coaching staff -- Mike Miller, defensive coordinator Ray Horton, defensive backs coach Louis Cioffi, offensive quality control coach Chad Grimm, defensive quality control coach Ryan Slowik, linebackers coach Matt Raich, wide receivers coach John McNulty, assistant defensive backs coach Deshea Townsend, strength and conditioning coach John Lott and assistant strength and conditioning coach Pete Alosi -- were already under contract.
