'Good News' On Hjalte Froholdt, And Training Camp Aftermath

The Cardinals got good news with starting center Hjalte Froholdt, and while he wasn't practicing on Thursday when the team returned to the field, coach Jonathan Gannon's optimism (and the fact Froholdt walked off the field on his own Tuesday) portend for his return sooner rather than later.

"Couple guys got some nicks and bumps and bruises, but nobody is serious," Gannon said. "So we'll get those guys back out there when they are ready to go."

Froholdt is day to day, Gannon said, after he was rolled up on from behind during a play.'

Gannon didn't mention anyone besides Froholdt by name, although wide receiver Zay Jones, defensive lineman Justin Jones and cornerback Kei'Trel Clark were also absent from practice on Thursday. Safety Budda Baker, while present, wasn't not dressed out and was playing the role of coach.

-- Count Marvin Harrison Jr. a big fan of NFL training camps, calling this camp "less taxing" than what he did in college. He's clearly a fan of Gannon's three-days-on-one-day-off cadence.

-- Practice was a "low" day, so highlights were not only sparse buy non-existent. (It's hard to have a highlight when the defense isn't trying to break up passes, just get in the right places for the defense.)

-- While Desmond Ridder and Clayton Tune will be battling for the backup QB role, Tune has gotten a large chunk of the second-unit snaps at this point.

-- Including Evan Brown, who was at left guard when Froholdt was playing but moved to center with Froholdt down, the Cards have run four different players with first-unit left guard: Brown, rookie Isaiah Adams, Jon Gaines II, and last year's original starting left guard, Elijah Wilkinson.

-- Preseason games will be the test, but there is little question second-round pick Max Melton is going to get his chance at significant playing time and perhaps even start. Top four CBs it seems right now are Garrett Williams, Sean Murphy-Bunting, Melton and Starling Thomas V.
