Josh Rosen practiced at least some Friday and threw some warm-up passes during the open portion of the Cardinals' workout.
But coach Steve Wilks said the rookie quarterback's status will be a game-day decision Sunday on whether he will be able to play in Dallas.
"We'll see how he feels right before the game," said Wilks, who will monitor whether Rosen can grip the ball consistently with the right thumb he hit against a helmet in practice earlier in the week.
Rosen did not speak with the media this week. After struggling in the preseason opener against the Chargers, Rosen looked good in New Orleans, completing 10 of 16 passes for 107 yards and throwing a touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Christian Kirk.
Rosen could use the snaps, especially since his time for on-field work could be coming to an end assuming Sam Bradford – who will start Sunday – stays healthy in the regular season.
"Every player in our system we want to see play as much as we can to get a good feel for where they're at in our system," offensive coordinator Mike McCoy said. "It's not just a quarterback or the quarterbacks, it's all of them."
Wilks said if Rosen cannot play, the Cardinals will try to split up his planned snaps between fellow backups Mike Glennon and rookie Charles Kanoff. Glennon is available after missing last week with a forearm issue.
"We want to see him perform," Wilks said.
NEW FACES FORCED TO START ON THE DEFENSIVE LINE
Wilks ruled out four players for Sunday's game – cornerback Jonathan Moxey, who has been out most of training camp with a bad hamstring, and the team's top three defensive tackles: Robert Nkemdiche, Corey Peters and Olsen Pierre.
Rodney Gunter is expected to start at one tackle, as the other second-stringer. Pasoni Tasini is likely to be the other starter, although the rest of the tackles – Siupeli Anau, Owen Obasuyi and just-signed-this-week Tani Tupou and Nigel Williams – all should get playing time.
"It's definitely a different look," Wilks said. "We've been working on that all week. This is an opportunity for other guys to step up."
DEFENSIVE END WITHOUT GOLDEN
The Cardinals are creeping closer to the date when they will have to make decisions about the two players on the physically-unable-to-perform list, defensive end Markus Golden and tight end Jermaine Gresham. The will have to come off PUP before the final cut-down time Sept. 1, or be left on PUP into the regular season, meaning they will be out at least the first six weeks of the season.
In the meantime, defensive coordinator Al Holcomb praised current defensive end starter Benson Mayowa, who is closing in on Golden's spot and happens to be playing against his former team the Cowboys on Sunday.
"To me Benson has done a fantastic job," Holcomb said. "Vontarrius (Dora) has done a really good job and there are some other guys in the mix as well. Benson has had a pretty good (week) so we are pleased with where he is at. It's a constant battle, a constant rotation."
