The franchise tag deadline was Wednesday afternoon, and with it came last-minute extensions for Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones and Titans running back Derrick Henry.
Kenyan Drake signed a transition tag this offseason, not the franchise tag, so he did not face the same deadline, but nevertheless does not feel like an extension is imminent.
The Cardinals running back Tweeted on Wednesday that he's "not too concerned" about a long-term deal, and that it will "come in due time." There is no deadline for the Cardinals and Drake to agree to an extension.
Drake signed his one-year, $8.48 million tender in March after an impressive eight-game stretch with the Cardinals to end 2019, racking up 643 rushing yards and eight touchdowns at a 5.2 yards-per-carry clip.
The running back position has been devalued the past few seasons, which makes long-term negotiations difficult, even when someone is playing well. Judging by his Tweet, Drake plans to put contract extension thoughts on the backburner as the season approaches.
