Quarterback Kevin Kolb scrambles during last weekend's game in Seattle.
Kevin Kolb's tough self-assessment from Sunday's game in Seattle didn't change Wednesday after the Cardinals began their week of practice.
"You don't want to take a step back," the quarterback said. "That game I probably took a step back."
Without question, there were errors from other spots on offense. Coach Ken Whisenhunt said if there was any step back, it would have only been from expectations, although he acknowledged Kolb didn't have his best game.
Kolb and Whisenhunt met Monday going over the good and bad of the offense – Kolb said the film "was as bad as we thought it would be" – and said Kolb hasn't had any lingering effects from his performance.
Sunday, Kolb will face a team and defense to which he is familiar, although he never played against the Giants during his four seasons in Philadelphia. The Giants have one of the better pass rushes, and knocked Eagles starter Michael Vick out of the game a week ago.
Kolb said he needs to "slow your mind down" which can only come with growing within the offense.
"Put your nose down and start grinding, that's all you can do," Kolb said. "It's hard to get over something like (Sunday's loss) but you have to find a way to do it because win, lose or draw, on Tuesday you are learning the next team.
"(The Giants) are a good team coming to play us. If we don't let (the Seahawks' game) go, if I don't let it go, then we aren't going to be ready to play Sunday."
BEANIE'S RECOVERY
Running back Beanie Wells was still limited with his hamstring injury, but he expects to play Sunday against the Giants. Whisenhunt said if Wells doesn't have any setbacks this week, "hopefully he'll be OK for the game."
"It's one of those things where you are worried that when he opens it up it may pull and you can feel that little twinge," Whisenhunt said. "Sometimes you can push through that, sometimes you have to be careful with that. It's a balancing act.
"He's in a good place right now. We could certainly use him."
Fellow running back LaRod Stephens-Howling, who hurt his hand in the opener, was limited himself and Whisenhunt is hoping Stephens-Howling will also be available.
EVALUATING TAYLOR
Veteran Chester Taylor was the back who started in Wells' place in Seattle, but after he gained just 20 yards on eight carries, he was replaced by Alfonso Smith, who played the balance of the game.
Still, Whisenhunt said Taylor "did some good things," as did Smith.
"It's a tough situation, to come in and have to play when you haven't been with the team very long," Whisenhunt said of Taylor, who wasn't signed until the week of the season opener. "But I had no issues with that whatsoever."
INJURY UPDATE
Tight end Todd Heap (ribs) and linebacker Paris Lenon (groin) were the new names on the injury list Wednesday. Both were limited.
Tight end Jim Dray (pectoral) and wide receiver Chansi Stuckey (hamstring) remained out.
