SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Kyler Murray is not playing Sunday against the 49ers.
Given that he missed practice all week with an ankle injury and that GM Steve Keim said Friday the Cardinals needed to look at the "big picture," having backup Colt McCoy start is not a surprise.
The Cardinals will not have wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins either, because of his hamstring injury.
It is the first time in his NFL career Murray has missed a game, and the first time Hopkins has missed a game since coming to the Cards.
Adding Murray and Hopkins to the absence of wide receiver A.J. Green because of Covid, the Cards are down their top three weapons in the passing game. It will create opportunities for receivers down the depth chart like Antoine Wesley and Andy Isabella, and the Cardinals also elevated Greg Dortch from the practice squad.
The full inactives list:
- QB Kyler Murray (ankle)
- WR DeAndre Hopkins (hamstring)
- RB Jonathan Ward (concussion)
- S James Wiggins (knee)
- CB Kevin Peterson
But before we go, some Maxx Williams pregame moment of zen.
