Whether Matt Prater returns to games season remains unknown, but he will return to practice.
The Cardinals on Wednesday designated the veteran kicker to return from Injured Reserve. Prater has been out since Week 5 after having knee surgery. In theory he can return to the roster at any point this regular season.
The Cardinals filled their remaining open roster spot by promoting punter Michael Palardy to the 53-man roster.
The Cardinals also brought back running back Tony Jones Jr. to the practice squad with Emari Demercado on IR, as well as signing linebacker Deshawn Banks with Jesse Luketa hurting. (Luketa posted on social media photos of him wearing a large brace on his leg after hurting his thigh against the Patriots).
Prater made all six of his field goals and all 10 of his extra points in the first four games of the season before getting hurt. His replacement, Chad Ryland, has made all 18 extra point tries and 22-of-26 field goals, including game-winners against the 49ers, Dolphins and Chargers.
Palardy replaced Blake Gillikin, who had his Pro Bowl-type season end with a foot injury. In his first game last week against the Patriots, Palardy averaged 48.5 yards a punt.
