The Cardinals hold the No. 1 overall pick for April's NFL draft for the first time since 1958. As the day for the Cards to make their selection draws closer, azcardinals.com will take a look at the last 30 No. 1 overall selections and each player's impact on the team and league.
NAME/YEAR: DE Myles Garrett, 2017
TEAM: Cleveland Browns
THE SITUATION: The Browns didn't see a QB worth taking, so they went with the best non-QB out there in Garrett in an effort to spark the defense. Garrett was a no-brainer pick given that perspective.
THE CAREER: Garrett had a breakout season in his second year as the Browns overall improved – in large part because, with the No. 1 overall pick for a second straight season, they finally did get their QB in Baker Mayfield.
THE OTHER OPTIONS IN TOP FIVE: It's still so early to judge, but Garrett has been pretty good while the others at the top … I mean, QB Mitch Trubisky (No. 2, Bears) has started to emerge under new coach Matt Nagy, but Leonard Fournette (No. 4, Jaguars) is always hurt.
