Jim Skane isn't the first Cardinals' fan to pass away, nor will he be the last. But he had a slightly higher profile than most, given that he set up the Arizona Sports Fans Network, an internet message board that allowed fans of all Arizona sports teams to discuss their sports but had as its foundation Skane's love for the Cards. He could sway toward the glass-is-half-empty, but he always wanted to believe. I knew him a little, meeting him a handful of times a few years ago when he had managed to acquire press credentials.
The news came down this morning that Skane had died. I had been monitoring his failing health on the board, but I still received a couple of e-mails this morning giving the heads-up. RIP, Jim.
