The NFL won't announce the winner of their Walter Payton Man of the Year award until Sunday, but a press conference was held today for the three finalists: Vikings center Matt Birk, Eagles safety Brian Dawkins and Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner. Warner couldn't be there -- something about a practice -- but his wife Brenda spoke for him. Brenda Warner repeatedly called her husband "a good man" and said "This is one award Kurt has always wanted." It honors a man who is good on the field but especially off -- and there is no question Warner has earned that recognition for his off-field exploits.
Seems almost logical that this year, with everything that has happened, Warner would get the nod. We'll see Sunday.
