Some stuff to cover after coach Ken Whisenhunt talked at lunchtime:
-- The Cards wanted to upgrade their center spot and did so by bringing in Melvin Fowler; his resume is simply more impressive than Donovan Raiola. It's early, and there's always a reason a guy like Fowler is available after camps started, but it wouldn't surprise me to see him pass up Ben Claxton on the depth chart behind Lyle Sendlein.
-- FB Justin Green had a partial tear of his ACL. With an open roster spot, Whisenhunt said the Cards will work out some fullbacks and probably sign one in the next couple of days.
-- Whisenhunt talked about what he wanted better on defense and he said it came down to being more disciplined. He emphasized he wasn't blaming former coordinator Clancy Pendergast, but there were issues, pointing out that many of the passes on the Steelers' game-winning Super Bowl drive came when players were out of position.
