Chicago (1898 - 1959)

1898 – The Cardinals' story begins as the Morgan Athletic Club in Chicago, making them the oldest continuously run professional football team in the NFL.

1901 – After receiving used maroon jerseys, team founder Chris O'Brien proudly declared, "That's not maroon, it's cardinal red!"—a defining moment in team history.

1920 – Became a charter member of the NFL, cementing their place as a pioneer in professional football.

1925 – Won their first NFL Championship.

1947 – Captured their second NFL Championship, led by the legendary Charley Trippi and the "Million Dollar Backfield," thrilling fans with a 28-21 win over the Eagles.

1948 – Proved their strength with back-to-back NFL Championship appearances, playing in one of the most famous blizzards in football history.

1960 – Moved to St. Louis, bringing the Cardinals' high-flying brand of football to a new fanbase.

1974 – Under Coach Don Coryell, the team won their first NFC East title, playing an electrifying offensive style that thrilled fans.

1975 – Won the NFC East Championship again with an 11-3 record, proving their dominance.

1982 – Reached the playoffs in a strike-shortened season, showcasing their fighting spirit.

1987 – The Cardinals sought a bigger stage and a more passionate fanbase, setting the stage for their move to Arizona.

1988 – The Cardinals arrived in Arizona, bringing NFL football to the Valley and creating a new home for passionate fans.

1994 – Officially became the Arizona Cardinals, strengthening their connection to the entire state.

1998 – Led by Jake Plummer, the Cardinals secured their first playoff win in 51 years, stunning the Cowboys in Dallas.

2006 – Opened the state-of-the-art State Farm Stadium, giving Cardinals fans one of the best home-field atmospheres in the NFL.

2008 – The season Cardinals fans will never forget! Led by Kurt Warner and Larry Fitzgerald, the team captured its first NFC Championship and reached Super Bowl XLIII. Despite a heart-stopping 27-23 loss to the Steelers, the Cardinals proved they belonged on the biggest stage.

2009 – Delivered another playoff thriller, defeating the Packers 51-45 in OT in one of the highest-scoring postseason games ever.

2015 – A historic 13-3 season! Won the NFC West, advanced to the NFC Championship Game, and gave Cardinals fans another unforgettable playoff run.

2018 – A new era began with the arrival of Kyler Murray, the No. 1 overall pick and a dynamic playmaker.

2021 – The Cardinals stormed out to a 7-0 start, their best in franchise history, finishing 11-6 and making a return to the NFL Playoffs.

2023 – Hired new General Manager Monti Ossenfort and Head Coach Jonathan Gannon, kickstarting a new era of Cardinals football.

Team Colors & Uniforms

The Cardinals got their name in 1901 when founder Chris O'Brien received used maroon jerseys from the University of Chicago. Seeing their faded color, he famously said, "That's not maroon, it's cardinal red!". The name stuck, and the rest is history.

Tillman

Tillman was a fearless safety for the Cardinals (1998–2001), known for his leadership and relentless spirit. In 2002, he left the NFL to serve in the U.S. Army, tragically losing his life in Afghanistan in 2004. His legacy lives on through the Pat Tillman Foundation, inspiring generations with his sacrifice and commitment to service.

Fitz

A franchise icon, Fitzgerald spent 17 seasons (2004–2020) with the Cardinals, becoming the team's all-time leader in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. An 11-time Pro Bowler and key figure in the 2008 Super Bowl run, Fitzgerald's excellence on and off the field cements his legacy as one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history.
