With linebacker Dennis Gardeck ailing with an ankle injury, the Cardinals filled their open roster spot Wednesday by signing linebacker Joe Walker from the Eagles' practice squad.
The Cardinals also lost running back Elijhaa Penny from their own practice squad when he was signed to the Giants' active roster, so the Cards also added running back Jalen Simmons to the practice squad. Simmons, coincidentally, was released by the Giants at the end of the preseason.
Walker was Philadelphia's seventh-round draft pick in 2016, when he tore his ACL. Last season, he played in 12 games, mainly on special teams, for the Super Bowl champions. The Cards released defensive tackle Garrison Smith Tuesday to clear room.
Coach Steve Wilks mentioned Monday that Gardeck was one of the players whose injury made him questionable for Sunday. Gardeck didn't play any defense against the Rams, but he tied safety Rudy Ford with most special teams snaps (17).
