Interceptions in football are some of the most exhilarating plays throughout the game but they are not the most important interception in life.
The Cardinals, the NFL, and the American Cancer Society have partnered up leading into Cancer Awareness Month for Crucial Catch, an initiative with the goal of intercepting and detecting all types of cancer early.
Sunday's game against the Commanders will be the Cardinals' Crucial Catch game. There will be Crucial Catch-specific captain patches, skull wraps, hoodies, hats, lapel pins, and more. The game will be one of many events the Cardinals have and will continue to host throughout the upcoming month.
Here's what the team has been up to:
- Sept. 24: In celebration of Crucial Catch, 10 cancer survivors/patients (with a guest each) were joined by Arizona Cardinals players for a Paint 'n Sip event.
- Sept. 28: The Cardinals are partnering with Cancer Support Community Arizona to help host a Teen Homecoming Dance for teens (ages 12-18) impacted by cancer. The event will feature appearances by Arizona Cardinals Cheerleaders, Big Red, and players' significant others.
- Sept. 29: The Cardinals will host 10 cancer survivors and patients, each with a guest, during the Crucial Catch home game against the Commanders, including pregame field passes.
- Oct. 12: The Cardinals will host a Wellness Day at one of A New Leaf's locations, offering mammograms, dental checks, haircuts, a live grilling experience, and inflatable/interactive games and activities for kids. Special appearances by Big Red and Arizona Cardinals Cheerleaders will also be featured.
- Oct. 26: Big Red and cheerleaders will join the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer awareness walk. They will lead stretches for attendees, participate in the VIP photo, and help kick off the walk.
- Oct. 28: In celebration of Crucial Catch, the Cardinals will host cancer survivors and patients, along with a guest, for an evening of puppy yoga, joined by players.
- Oct. 29: Players will visit Phoenix Children's hospital for room visits, followed by games and activities, with Big Red and the Arizona Cardinals Cheerleaders joining in.
