The Cardinals and Bears share a long history, as the only two remaining original franchises from the original version of the NFL in 1920 and their coexistence for 40 years in the city of Chicago.
They are also two of the old-school family-owned franchises, and why the passing of Bears owner Virginia McCaskey on Thursday at the age of 102, meant so much to the Cardinals organization.
"We join the entire NFL in celebrating the remarkable life of Virginia Halas McCaskey and send our most heartfelt condolences to her wonderful family that includes the players, coaches and fans of the Chicago Bears," Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill said in a statement. "Mrs. McCaskey's impact on our league and the Bears franchise is profound. However, her greatest legacy may be the character, compassion and kindness she demonstrated on a daily basis throughout her long life. With certainty, there will never be another like her."
McCaskey, the daughter of George Halas, attended the funeral of late Cardinals owner Bill Bidwill in 2019.
