With July here and training camp scheduled to start soon, azcardinals.com will take a look at the Cardinals' individual position groups during this quiet time in the NFL and give our opinions about where the groups stand prior to camp. Today, offensive line.
LOCKS: T D.J. Humphries, C Rodney Hudson, G Justin Pugh, T Kelvin Beachum, G Brian Winters, G Justin Murray, T Josh Jones
The Cardinals have 80 percent of their starting offensive line locked in. Humphries will start at left tackle, Pugh at guard, Hudson at center and Beachum at right tackle. The right guard spot is an open competition, with Winters and Murray the favorites heading into camp. Jones, the team's third-round pick in 2020, will aim to start at guard but is more likely to be the swing tackle.
WORK TO DO: G/C Max Garcia, C Michal Menet, T Joshua Miles, G Koda Martin, T Branden Bowen, G Shaq Calhoun, G Sean Harlow
Lamont Gaillard was released on Wednesday, so the backup center job could come down to the veteran Garcia or Menet, the team's seventh-round pick in April. Both could still make the team. Miles was a seventh-round pick in 2019 and will aim to again make the roster as tackle depth. Martin, Brown, Calhoun and Harlow will need to leapfrog others on the depth chart to secure a spot on the roster. Several offensive linemen will also likely land on the practice squad.
UPGRADE ODDS: Low
The Cardinals have a solid starting group and nice depth on the offensive line. Seven roster spots seem locked up, while Garcia is another nice reserve option. It is rare for teams to keep more than nine or 10 offensive linemen on the roster, so a notable free agent addition is unlikely unless an injury comes into play.
