The Cardinals re-signed inside linebacker Tanner Vallejo to a two-year contract on Wednesday.
The four-year NFL veteran is a key special teams piece and will aim to carve out a rotational role on defense in 2021. While Jordan Hicks and Isaiah Simmons are projected to be the starters at inside linebacker, Vallejo could be needed if the versatile Simmons is moved around depending on matchups.
Vallejo played a significant amount in the season finale against the Rams, totaling 12 tackles and a sack. He also had a critical third-down tackle in the overtime victory against the Seahawks in Week 7.
Vallejo could be the main backup at inside linebacker with De'Vondre Campbell likely to depart in free agency. Ezekiel Turner is also likely to return after receiving a tender offer as a restricted free agent. Evan Weaver, last year's sixth-round pick, is another depth option at inside linebacker.
