Cornerback Marcus Williams was released on Monday.
The Cardinals released cornerback Marcus Williams on Monday, as they needed room on the 90-man roster for trade addition Jamar Taylor. The moves bring some clarity to the cornerback position, as Taylor is the front-runner to start on the outside opposite Patrick Peterson.
Williams was signed in April after spending the past four seasons with the Jets and Texans. He was among a large group of cornerbacks hoping to make a strong impression on the coaching staff.
The moves leave nine cornerbacks on the roster. The others, in addition to Taylor and Peterson, are Brandon Williams, Bené Benwikere, Jonathan Moxey, Lou Young III, sixth-round pick Chris Campbell and undrafted free agents Tavierre Thomas and Deatrick Nichols.
