The Cardinals added a potential offensive line depth piece Wednesday by signing Branden Bowen, who played both tackle and guard in college.
Bowen was signed as an undrafted rookie out of Ohio State last year by the Carolina Panthers before being released during final cuts.
After missing a chunk of 2017 and all of 2018 with a broken leg that wouldn't heal correctly, Bowen came back to start at right tackle for the Buckeyes in 2019. He enters a mix on the offensive line -- and in particular right tackle -- that could have some changes. Last year's starter at right tackle, Kelvin Beachum, is a free agent. Marcus Gilbert returns from opting out of 2020 for COVID reasons with one year still on his contract. The Cardinals also have 2020 third-round pick Josh Jones with a chance to start at right tackle.
Guards Max Garcia and J.R. Sweezy are also free agents.
Including those players who signed futures deals, the Cardinals now have 56 players on the roster for 2021 as they build toward a 90-man limit.
