The Cardinals added to their running back room Saturday, signing veteran Ito Smith to a spot where Eno Benjamin and Jonathan Ward have been vying for the No. 3 role.
The Cards also released running back Khalfani Muhammad and cornerback Lorenzo Burns.
Smith, 25, played the first three years of his career with the Falcons. In 35 games, he has rushed for 689 yards on 175 carries, and added another 55 catches for 314 yards. He has scored six touchdowns, all rushing. The Falcons cut him in April, and he went through a workout with the Cardinals on Friday.
The 5-foot-9, 195-pounder will try and get time away from Benjamin -- who was recently praised by coach Kliff Kingsbury -- and Ward. Benjamin was a seventh-round pick in 2020; Ward signed last season as an undrafted rookie.
Chase Edmonds and James Conner will be the main running backs going into the season.
