Jonathan Gannon confirmed weeks ago the Cardinals were going to practice against an AFC team during the preseason, like they had against the Vikings in 2023.
On Monday, prior to the Cardinals beginning their Phase Three offseason work with their first OTA, Gannon finally said which team -- the Colts.
Given that the Cardinals only had two road games in the preseason against the Colts and Broncos, the candidates were strictly limited, but the work will come in Indianapolis. The Colts are coached by Shane Steichen, who became close to Gannon when the two were the offensive and defensive coordinators, respectively, for the Eagles.
Gannon also spent three years as a defensive backs coach for the Colts prior to being hired in Philadelphia in 2021.
The date of the Colts game has been announced by the Colts as Aug. 17, a Saturday. Last year, the Cardinals had a pair of practices in Minnesota before their preseason game against the Vikings.
"My relationship with (GM) Chris Ballard and Shane, I love what Gus (Bradley) does on defense, what they do on offense ... it's different for what we go against," Gannon said. "It's a cool facility. The fan turnout will be awesome, and then we will play them."
