Centennial High School running back Anthony Hughes has been named this week's Arizona Cardinals and Wells Fargo "High School Player-of-the-Week."
Hughes had 16 carries for 301 yards and four touchdowns in the Coyotes 40-0 victory over Westview High School last Friday night in a game that was seen across the country on ESPNU. The win improved the Coyotes record to 10-0 on the season and solidified their spot as the top ranked team in the state.
The seventh-year Arizona Cardinals Football Club "Player-of-the-Week" award, presented by Wells Fargo, is selected by a local sports panel consisting of Cardinals Director of Community Relations Luis Zendejas, Community Relations Coordinator Sheldon Meeks, NBC-12 sports reporter Bruce Cooper, 16-year Arizona high school football official Bob Ferreira, AIA Director of Media Marketing Brian Bolitho, former Arizona high school coach Emil Nasser, 1060 AM radio host Dan Manucci, and Wells Fargo representative Jeff Smith.
A football plaque acknowledging the award will be presented to Hughes by a Cardinals alumnus at a ceremony at Centennial High School on Wednesday, November 4 at 3:00 p.m. at the team's football field prior to the their afternoon practice (14388 N. 79th Avenue, Peoria). The Coyotes conclude the regular season this Friday night as they host Chavez High School at 7 p.m.
