Chaparral safety Colby Targun has been named this week's Arizona Cardinals and Wells Fargo "High School Player-of-the-Week."
Targun had three interceptions and returned two of them for touchdowns (45 and 31 yards) in helping the Firebirds improve to 4-0 with a 48-21 win over previously undefeated Mesquite High School.
The eighth-year Arizona Cardinals Football Club "Player-of-the-Week" award, presented by Wells Fargo, is selected by a local sports panel consisting of Cardinals Director of Community Relations Luis Zendejas, Community Relations Coordinator Sheldon Meeks, NBC-12 sports reporter Bruce Cooper, 16-year Arizona high school football official Bob Ferreira, AIA Director of Media Marketing Brian Bolitho, Channel 3 sports anchor Brad Cesmat, 1060 AM radio host Dan Manucci, and Wells Fargo representative Jeff Smith.
A football plaque acknowledging the award will be presented to Targun by a Cardinals alumnus at a ceremony at Chaparral High School (6935 E. Gold Dust Avenue, Scottsdale) on Friday, September 24 at 8:45 a.m. The Firebirds host North Canyon High School on Friday night.
