Darius Robinson was nearing his NFL debut when his calf gave out in a practice on Aug. 22, and to this point, he's still waiting for that first football game.
Ten snaps in a preseason matchup against the Saints aside, Robinson hasn't played in a game since participating for Missouri in last season's Cotton Bowl. His anxiousness to play again is apparent.
"It's hard to put into words," the defensive lineman said in his first time talking to the media since early August. "When it's time, I'll just put it on tape."
Robinson was activated from IR on Oct. 28, but Monday and Wednesday have marked the first time he has practiced in back-to-back workouts since his injury.
Coach Jonathan Gannon has shed little light on Robinson's progress, other than to repeat the rookie is day-to-day. There has been no indication whether Robinson will make his debut Sunday in Seattle, and Robinson wasn't saying either.
"I don't know man, I'm just excited for the meeting later (Wednesday) to watch the tape with my coaches and see where I can get better at," Robinson said.
Robinson said he was "heartbroken" when he originally came back to practice and then was sidelined again. Soon after, Robinson's mother also passed away.
But asked about how he was doing mentally after those two events, Robinson said he was doing "great."
"Been a lot of ups and downs," Robinson added. "But I pray about it, I have great teammates that support me, everyone at the Cardinals.
"I'm in a good headspace."
Robinson said multiple times there had been no setbacks in his recovery. He is not concerned about rust on the field when he finally plays, noting that he has been running and lifting extensively during his rehab.
"I'm just glad to go to practice today," Robinson said. "You really cherish those moments more than ever when it gets taken away from you."
