The NFL launched a new national youth health and fitness campaign designed to tackle childhood obesity. NFL Play 60: The NFL Movement for an Active Generation will focus on the health and wellness of young fans by encouraging them to be active for at least 60 minutes a day. NFL Play 60 brings together the NFL's long-standing commitment to health and fitness with an impressive roster of partner organizations— Action for Healthy Kids, Ad Council, American Heart Association, National Dairy Council, Nickelodeon, United Way, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In additional to national PSAs and online programs, Play 60 will also be implemented locally in each NFL market via various programs.
On Saturday, September 27th, from 12:00-3:00 PM, Nickelodeon will "Go Black" and stop all programming in an effort to encourage children to go outside and play. In Support of this event, the Arizona Cardinals will hold an event at the University of Phoenix Stadium's "Great Lawn" with games and activities for children ages 7-14. Our goal is to launch a state wide event that would bring children away from their TV's and video games on a Saturday afternoon.
The Arizona Cardinals would like to invite all Arizona elementary schools to host their own "Worldwide Day of Play". Here is how it will work.
• Each school would open their playground on 9/27/08 from 12:00-3:00 PM
• School staff will control play area and games of their choosing.
• Families enrolled in the school may come and take part in the games.
Besides encouraging the children to lead healthy active lifestyles, what is the benefit for the schools holding such an event? The Arizona Cardinals have created a reward system for schools that choose to participate.
• Each school who decides to participate will receive 2 tickets to a cardinal's home game (for individual(s) who coordinate the event).
• Schools with the most participation will receive rewards. School rewards include:
School Prizes
-1st Interactive Kids Zone w/ player at school
-2nd A player appearance at the school
-3rd 25 tickets to a cardinals home game
(5 adults, 20 kids)
