Took home the award two years prior to Paris Johnson winning it (2019) and six years after former AZ lineman D.J. Humphries earned the honor (2011).
During his six years (2018-23) at Clemson, Thomas appeared in 63 games (30 starts) and totaled 121 tackles, 17.5 sacks, 34 tackles for loss, seven passes defensed, six forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 1,865 career snaps … left Clemson as one of nine players in school history - one of seven non-specialists and one of four defensive players - to play 60 career games.
2023: Started 11-of-13 games played in his final season with the Tigers, finishing the year with 25 tackles, four tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, a team-high 21 QB pressures, two passes defensed, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble … posted four tackles (two for loss) and a sack vs. No. 4 Florida State … recorded three tackles at Syracuse and added a fumble recovery he returned 20 yards to the Syracuse three-yard line to set up a Clemson score … made a game-changing play in the Gator Bowl, forcing a fumble on a sack that was the first of Clemson's four fourth-quarter takeaways in its comeback victory vs. Kentucky.
2022: Limited by a foot injury to only four games, collecting four tackles (two for loss), 2.0 sacks and a forced fumble in 52 defensive snaps … ACC Honor Roll selection … missed the first five games of the season after suffering a foot injury in fall camp … returned to action at Boston College, where despite playing only six snaps, he earned ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week after posting 2.0 sacks, a forced fumble and an additional QB hit, collecting the Leather Helmet Award from the Boston College Gridiron Club as the game's MVP.
2021: Started 10-of-12 games played and earned third-team All-ACC honors after totaling 27 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a pass defensed … led the team with 17 QB pressures … recorded a career-high 2.0 sacks and a forced fumble among his five tackles at NC State … recorded six tackles and a forced fumble vs. Florida State … harassed Brock Purdy with three credited QB pressures and one tackle vs. Iowa State.
2020: Limited to seven games (one start) while playing through complications with COVID-19 and strep throat … finished with 11 tackles, four for loss, 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble in only 119 snaps … made season debut vs. No. 7 Miami … recorded three tackles, including his first sack of the season vs. Syracuse … added a sack vs. Boston College, giving him a full sack in back-to-back games for the first time in his career.
