Perhaps the biggest unknown for the Cardinals' offensive line comes at right tackle, where Andre Smith was a somewhat quiet free-agent acquisition. Because Jared Veldheer was still on the roster at the time, there was a little uncertainty about Smith's potential role. When Veldheer was traded, Smith got the job.
Coach Steve Wilks acknowledged he talked to Smith about his weight in the offseason, but that the veteran has done what has been needed to earn his role as starter thus far.
"The biggest thing with Andre is he came in in shape," Wilks said. "There were some concerns back in the spring, being a little overweight. I challenged him on that, and he did a tremendous job coming in and being ready to play. You can really see he and (guard Justin) Pugh connecting on that right side. They do a great job communicating with each other. It's been a good fit for both of them."
-- Wilks confirmed Saturday the news coming off the MRI of linebacker Deone Bucannon's left knee: That there was no structural damage and that Bucannon will be day-to-day. It was important news. "Deone is fine," Wilks said.
