Reports: Big-Ticket Pass Rusher Josh Sweat Coming To Cardinals

Negotiation window opened Monday but deals can't be official until Wednesday

It's the delay game of free agency, but the news still goes on. And the news, in the form of multiple reports, have the Cardinals agreeing to a four-year contract with Eagles edge rusher Josh Sweat, one of those free-agents-to-be that had been linked to the Cardinals for weeks.

Sweat had a spectacular Super Bowl, with 2.5 sacks of Patrick Mahomes in Philadelphia's win over Kansas City. In his seven-year career -- which included two with current Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon as his defensive coordinator -- Sweat has 43 sacks, including eight in 16 games last season. He had a high of 11 in 2022.

Sweat can't sign a deal -- or be officially announced by the team -- before Wednesday afternoon at the earliest, and the way the Cardinals have operated, they will wait until he takes his physical and puts pen to paper. But it's a big deal for a team that had Zaven Collins lead the team with five sacks a year ago.

After agreeing to bring back Baron Browning, the Cardinals now have a top-four outside linebacker room of Sweat, Collins, Browning and BJ Ojulari, who is returning from an ACL.

The Cardinals were also reportedly trying to land Eagles defensive tackle Milton Williams too. It was reported early Monday Williams had come to an agreement with the Panthers, only to instead continue negotiations with the Cardinals and Vikings, before eventually landing with New England for a reported $26M a year and becoming the highest-paid Patriot ever.

Defensive tackle Roy Robertson-Harris, who reportedly visited the Cardinals after being cut by the Seahawks, is signing with the Giants.

And so, free agency is underway.
