CLEVELAND -- The most important inactive for the Cardinals Sunday is the head coach.
With Kliff Kingsbury sidelined after a positive Covid test, how the Cards deal with offensive playcalling against the Browns is one of the biggest stories of the day. ESPN reported that assistant wide receivers coach Spencer Whipple will help run game coordinator/offensive line coach Sean Kugler in that role. The Cards have other options for help as well, including veteran quarterback Colt McCoy.
Kingsbury and quarterbacks coach Cam Turner will both miss the game due to Covid.
As for the players, every one of the Cardinals that had been listed as questionable is active against the Browns: tackle Kelvin Beachum, cornerbacks Byron Murphy and Marco Wilson, running back Chase Edmonds and linebacker Jordan Hicks. Defensive lineman Jordan Phillips is also active, although with only a week of practice after missing most of camp, his snaps may be limited.
The full inactive list:
- QB Chris Streveler
- WR Andy Isabella
- RB Eno Benjamin
- LB Tanner Vallejo (hand)
- TE Zach Ertz
Linebacker Chandler Jones and defensive lineman Zach Allen and Corey Peters are all out out Sunday because they are on the Covid list. Peters just went on the list Sunday morning.
The Browns have their own issues. Not only is top running back Nick Chubb out, both starting tackles -- Jedrick Wills and Jack Conklin -- are also out. So is cornerback A.J. Green, preventing the much anticipated A.J. Green versus A.J. Green battle.
