The Cardinals signed former Falcons fullback Derrick Coleman on Thursday.

Bruce Arians vocally eschewed fullbacks from the day he showed up in Arizona. New coach Steve Wilks – and more importantly, his offensive coordinator, Mike McCoy – does not.

While McCoy's offense remains a work in progress, it's become clear the Cardinals will employ a fullback, underscoring that Thursday when they signed veteran fullback Derrick Coleman to a one-year contract.

To make room on the roster for Coleman, the Cardinals released running back Bronson Hill.

Coleman, 6-foot and 233 pounds, played in all 16 games for the Falcons last season, making two catches for 20 yards and rushing for eight yards on two carries. He did not play in 2016.

The 27-year-old was originally signed by the Vikings as an undrafted rookie in 2012. Released during training camp, Coleman signed with Seattle in December and played with the Seahawks through the 2015 season. In 31 games with Seattle, Coleman gained 91 yards on 11 catches and rushed for 35 yards on 10 carries.

The Cardinals currently have only a couple of other fullback options. Running back Elijhaa Penny has been working at fullback thus far, and the team also added Wisconsin rookie fullback Austin Ramesh, who was undrafted.

Coleman, who is deaf, reached national fame for a Duracell commercial in 2014, aired just before he played in the Super Bowl with the Seahawks.
