Colt McCoy Makes Cameo At Kyler's Birthday Celebration

Coaches manage to pull prank on backup QB while getting starter 'present'

It was Kyler Murray's birthday Saturday. And his coaches -- specifically QB coach Cam Turner and head coach Kliff Kingsbury -- had a great idea for a present.

And they could have some fun with their backup QB too.

Cameo is a new online service that allows celebrities and athletes of all types to offer phone video messages. For various prices, depending on the celebrity, you can get a friend or family member a personalized message. Cardinals backup QB Colt McCoy is on the service -- a message from him as of Saturday is $112 -- and so the plan was hatched.

Turner, using his mother-in-law's credit card and a burner email account reached out to McCoy for a birthday message for K1. He didn't say it was for Kyler Murray of course. McCoy was told the kid's name was "Buddy," and was a quarterback from Texas.

In their morning meetings Saturday, the QB room got to enjoy the show, which was captured on someone's phone and eventually, on Murray's IG account.

"I was sweating I was so embarrassed," Kingsbury said. "I knew it was coming but he didn't know."

At first McCoy wasn't doing it and they were running out of time, so Kingsbury said they had to pay "like double the fee" to get it done in time.

"It was quite a process," Kingsbury said. "We were stressing. (Colt) had no idea. (Cam) said the kid's name was Buddy. It was pretty genius. One of the best ones I've ever seen. But it was hard to keep it to ourselves all week, knowing it was going to happen."
